I love to eat snacks that have a crispy sound to them and that make a satisfying snap when I eat them. This mostly describes crisps, however, the ones found in the supermarket are far from being healthy and I always feel bad after indulging in that craving, because it is empty calories and no nutriments at all. Thank god, I discovered the joy of homemade nut mix. It gives me what I love in a crisp and it is a very healthy way of snacking. The great thing with a nut mix is that it is really filling, you don’t have to eat an enormous quantity of it to feel satisfied and sustained. I always find that it is a real great substitute to crisps because they are a treat to eat but healthier. Also, they are so easy to make and you end up with a great quantity. You can easily store it and reach for a handful in a busy morning before leaving.

This recipe is also very versatile in its uses. You can use it as a snack on a day-to-day basis, but you can also serve it at a party instead of the usual processed barbecue peanuts. Moreover, you can give them as a hostess gift or at Christmas, because it is always a nice touch. Anyways, you will certainly not be “stuck” with these nut mixes, they will probably be a big hit that we ask you to bring again.

Ingredients

-1/4 cup of pure maple syrup

-1 teaspoon of sriracha sauce

-2 egg whites

-1/2 cup of cashew nuts

-1/2 cup of whole almonds

-1/2 cup of half of pecans

-1/2 cup of hazelnuts

-1/2 cup of pistachios

-1/2 cup of macadamia nuts

If you are not a spicy fan, you can also change the recipe and remove the sriracha. You can also adapt it to your taste, you can alternate the types of nut depending on your likings.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven at 180°C (350°F).

2. In a large bowl, mix maple syrup, sriracha sauce and egg whites.

3. Add the nuts and mix well until the nuts are coated in the garniture.

4. Put a parchment paper on a cooking tray.

5. Spread out the nuts on the cooking tray. Cook in the oven for 18 to 20 minutes and stir often.

6. Pull out of the oven and leave to cool.
